Bell House is an existing two flat greystone in North Center that will be de-converted to a single-family residence. The greystone front and masonry shell will be maintained, while the interior is fully renovated and a modern addition is constructed off the back of the building. A formal living area at the front of the home leads to a light-filled kitchen and family room where a wall of windows extends views to the enclosed back yard and new garage.
Two bedrooms cantilever over the wall of windows which increases the square footage on the second level and provides some shade on the lower level. The exterior material palette of cement board panels, black stained cedar, dark brick, and metal are a modern complement to the existing Chicago common brick walls in this urban neighborhood. Inside, a light filled feature stair of wood, metal, and glass leads from the kitchen up to the bedrooms and the penthouse which is capped with a triangular skylight.
