James is a Project Designer, contributing to conceptualization, design, and representation for projects across all phases. In addition to continuing to grow his knowledge of conventional construction processes, he brings to Level an interest in technology, coding, and parametric design processes to aid in developing better workflows and providing more opportunities to realize ambitious design.
Prior to joining Level in October 2018, James worked for 3 years in New York City at a boutique architecture firm with a design forward agenda and a variety of projects both in New York City and abroad. From single family apartments to brownstones to office interiors for an international technology company, James took projects from initial research through construction, working directly with clients to provide design-forward solutions to every project. During his tenure, James worked directly with the principal architect to develop the firm’s attitude towards design in representation, aiding in proposals, marketing, hiring, and training new employees.
James received a Master of Architecture degree from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University. James is interested in architectural discourse, and while a student at Columbia, he helped found a collective workshop and publication named “:” (pronounced ‘colon’). The publication has been featured in exhibitions in New York, Milan, and Stockholm, and most recently completed a residency at NEW INC, the New Museum’s design and technology incubator.
